I didn’t know that I liked Lady Gaga. Actually, I would have told you I didn’t like her based on her American Idol performance – well, I don’t know if the performance was bad but I was so distracted by her stupid wardrobe  that now when I think of the American Idol performance I think: Stupid.  I’ve pretty much based my opinions about her on the absurd clothing. But Mr. Florida has been mucho obsessed with the song Love Game and so while shopping this weekend I got him the CD, because I’m a nice wife. Plus, he asked me too. Ha. As soon as he got it in his hot little hands he blasted it through the house and I must admit, I dug it. So much that I loaded it to my iPod and used it for work out music. I guess I kind of like her. Oh, her wardrobe is still mentally ill, but some of her music is pretty fun. Oh and also? I love the song The Climb by Miley Cyrus. That’s another one I would have told you I didn’t like based on … shit … the fact that she’s Hannah Montana? I don’t know. She’s just not my thing. But I found myself listening to that song, not knowing who sang it, and loving it so much. I don’t know if I’ll buy an album but I sure do want to download that song.

Oh, in other musical news that is not really news – Creed. In concert. Again. I am very stoked about this. Before they broke up and Scott Stapp went insane and I was forced to fake divorce him and end our fake marriage I’d been to see Creed every time they were in Dallas. I know it’s not cool to love them so much, that they get ribbing from just about everyone, but I do not care. There was a time in my life that I was really fucking low and the music from specifically their first album gave me some comfort. I know, rock music gave me comfort – that’s weird. But whatever. It did. And now they are touring and have a new album coming out! So! Excited!

Country Singers Are DEEP y’all!

There's this new song I keep hearing on the radio by Brad Paisley called Letter To Me and every time I hear it it makes me stop and think about the letter I might write to myself - not at 17 necessarily - probably more like 13. Oh man, the things I would tell myself about myself, about my family, about how the world works and how things really do always get better even if it doesn't feel like they ever will. Huh. I haven't written much lately, maybe I'll start there. With a little letter to myself at 13. See? Country music is like, all deep and thought provoking sometimes.

I heard the song - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers yesterday - what the hell ever happened to those dudes anyway? Huh. The have like seven albums - who knew? Annnyywaaaaayy - that one song, the 500 Miles one? If you hear it, it will play in a never ending loop inside your head - ALL THE LIVE LONG DAY. And even though it was trying to torment me, I still kinda dig it. Reminds me of the time my cousins and I turned my Aunt's living room into a Dance Club and proceeded to dance all crazy and insane - ok, fine - we were dancing like drunk fools - but I blame the German's for that. Yeah. Blaming the Germans. That's not random at all is it? Leeme 'splain. That was the night we drank some god awful liquor my cousin brought back with him from Germany that tasted like licorice (which means it also tasted like ass) and, I swear to the Baby Jesus, it had a plant inside the bottle. A fern. A Hydrangea. I don't know. Somethin' like that. Oh and it wasn't good, but we drank it anyway. And then there was a dance floor, and The Proclaimers and quite possibly the most brilliant idea we've ever had - making Jell-O shots with Bacardi 151. Turns out if you use too much 151 it never really becomes the jell part of the Jell-O and you just end up with some Jell-O-Bacardi-ish concoction that isn't quite Jell-O, and isn't quite a drink. But it was a mixture my then 15 year old cousin shoveled into her mouth by the spoonfuls, and who we found later lying across the staircase, drunk and smoking a cigarette and it was then that I explained to her the awesomeness of self induced vomiting since she was clearly going to be sick later - she just didn't know it yet. Geesh. And she thought we didn't love her! Come on - nothing says love like Jell-O & Bacardi.
Oh and one more thing: na na na! na na na! lika lika lika lika lika la, la, la. 

She Ran Calling Wildfire

The other night while sitting with Nawlins Girl having some Mexican food treats the song Wildfire started playing. I stopped mid-sentence or I stopped her mid-sentence and said "I love this song."   Nawlin’s Girl says it makes her sad and that when she was little it would make her cry.
Yes. One thousand times yes.
I think that’s why I like it.

I Heart Richard Marx

Yesterday at the gym I look up at one of the TV's and Rick Springfield & Olivia Newton John are selling this: Love Songs Gold &  80's Gold  - and for the record, what happened to Rick Springfield's face? Did he get some work done or something because he looked ... plastic? Waxy? Not Human? Granted, I didn't have my glasses on, and I was not very close to the TV so maybe it was just me and my old lady eyes - at least that's what I'm going to tell myself. Denial is such a pretty place, come visit me sometime won't you?
Anyhoodle, so I'm watching Mr. Jessie's Girl & Ms. Let's Get Physical and realize that every song on the 80's Gold album is awesome and that I will most likely be forced to purchase it for its sheer awesomeness. No, for real ... look at the TWO DISC track listing. Every one of those songs - except maybe that Diana Ross tune - Upside Down - which  I can't really place but I'm not going to say I don't know it, it's possible that I do and just didn't know that was a Diana Ross tune, but that track is really the only blemish on an otherwise perfect collection of songs that seem to have been put on CD for me personally. The only artist missing is Richard Fucking Marx who I will love forever and ever amen (oooh, Randy Travis Song! Shut up. I love him too. Yes. RANDY TRAVIS.), in fact, I'd switch out the Diana Ross song for Don't Mean Nothin' or Should've Known Better...
Oh hi, I'm back. I've been on Richard Marx's website and you know what? He is still awesome. To the MILLIONTH POWER. I don't even care about this blog anymore, I want to get back to Richard's website and read his journal. So I'm going to do that. And join the mailing list. I am so very 15 years old again.

It's Kind Of Dirty, But I Like It

Last year my sister made me a copy of Nickelback's CD The Long Road, which I listened to I think once and then for whatever reason put it away, probably to listen to things like The Backstreet Boys or quite possibly some Anne Freakin' Murray. I have awesome musical taste or no taste whatsoever. You decide. But don't tell me, keep that shit to yourself mkay? Thanks. So I was going through my CD's looking for ... hell, I don't even remember what I was looking for, but decided to give the Nickelback CD another listen. I actually like this band, I saw them at the Bronco Bowl's Canyon Club (with 3 Doors down before either one of those bands were a big deal and yes, it was awesome) before the Bronco Bowl became whatever the hell it is now, and as a side note, the Bronco Bowl was were my Dad's high school held his Senior Prom, how weird is that? Anyway, I liked Nickelback then, and I like them now. I think I still have the cassette single they were GIVING AWAY when you bought a t-shirt (which I did  buy & still have & still wear), that's how long ago that was. Cassette single. Damn. Anyway, there's one particular song on The Long Road CD that I totally dig and I'm a little ashamed of myself for liking it so much because, well, the lyrics start like this:

Maybe it's just me, but there's something kinda bad but in a sexy kinda way bad, about this song. And Chad Kroeger's voice ... mmmmm, me likes.

If They Put Them On The Counter Like That They're Free ... Right?

For my birthday (waaaayyy back in January) my Dad gave me tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera. The BFF and I went last night,  and it was excellent. I think everyone should have a disfigured stalker who can sing like THAT. Veddy veddy niicceee. But even MORE excellent? Discovering in the bathrooms at the music hall a bucket of complementary tampons.

    Me: Ohh, look, free tampons.

    The BFF: Here, I think I can fit three in my purse.

    Me: Excellent. Annddd I'll take a few as well.

    We make eye contact in the mirror and then crack up.

    Me: God. How white trash are WE?

Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll

The fact that George Michael just came out (well, he came out a long time ago, but that's about something totally different) and said "It's my own stupid fault, as usual." in reference to his recent drug arrest, makes me like him, even more. I love that he didn't try and spin it, or deny it or make excuses, he's just all "oops, my bad!" about it. And I totally love that. And him. Shut up. I know he's gay. Doesn't mean I can't still live in 1988 when I didn't know that but what I DID know was that his ass in the Faith video made me feel all ha-ma-na-ha-ma-na-ha-ma-na on the inside. Oh and I wish, wish, wish! I'd kept my Explore Monogamy t-shirt from the Faith concert. Oh yeah, I went, and before you get all "I didn't think you could listen to rock music because your Dad was like that Dad in Footloose..." just know that once the parents got divorced I could pretty much do whatever the hell I wanted to. They were too busy pretending to be college freshmen, getting drunk and partying and trying on for size the swinging single party pants for the first time -- at the age of FORTY mind you -- to pay much attention to what I was doing and because I was their Rule Following Scared Of Most Things And Very Responsible For Such A Young Person daughter, I don't think they worried too much that I'd get all after school special on them and take up drinking, smoking, sniffing glue or whatever it is that rebellious teenagers do. I don't even think I asked permission to go to the George Michael concert wait ... no, maybe I did. I was such a rule follower I probably asked and since at the time there was so much divorce guilt flying around they just said yes to whatever I asked for because divorce makes people do some crazy ass shit, and it's no wonder my sister TO THIS DAY thinks I had it so easy because I didn't spend my last few years at home under the Nazi Dictatorship that was my Father's disciplinary style. And I think SHE had it easier because SHE GOT TO MOVE THE HELL OUT and did not have to deal with my Mother and all that fucking emotional wreckage washing up to shore at the time, so What. Ever.

And quickly: Kid Rock + Scott Stapp = Sex Tape

That math right there is more confusing to me than the quadratic equation. And I'm going to hell for sure because I kinda sorta want to see WHAT THE FUCK that is about. And I love how Kid Rock is all "Scott Stapp is an idiot for losing the tape." Hee. Clearly MAKING THE TAPE IN THE FIRST PLACE isn't stupid right? And Scott Stapp is all "SOMEONE is out to ruin me" and is coming off just a wee bit like a BIG WHINEY BABY and I just want to say to Scott: "Maybe that "someone" is YOU."  You big dinkis. Stop making a mockery of my love for you!
